A Life Built in the Trades

Jim Watson grew up with his hands on tools, machines, and race equipment. His early years were shaped by building and racing motorcycles with his father, learning that performance does not come from talk - it comes from careful work, smart design, and the discipline to keep improving.

That same mindset carried into motorsports, where Jim progressed from motorcycles to race cars and earned the role of chief mechanic for a professional team. In the shop and at the track, he learned the value of precision, reliability, safety, and speed under pressure. Those lessons still show up today in the way he leads Arc-Zone and the way the company serves working fabricators.

Training, Technical Foundation, and Industry Leadership

To deepen his understanding of fabrication and product design, Jim studied welding at Pasadena City College and engineering at Valley Technical College in Van Nuys, California. He went on to build a career inside some of the best-known companies in the welding business, gaining hard-earned experience in manufacturing, technical sales, product development, and leadership.

Jim held leadership roles with Weldcraft TIG Products, where he helped build the company into a respected worldwide brand. He later served as Director of Manufacturing, moved into sales leadership, and then into product management.

Built on Continuous Improvement

Jim has always believed that a world-class company is built on process, accountability, and never being satisfied with average.

In June 1998, Jim founded Arc-Zone.com with a 386 computer, a dial-up internet connection, a cordless phone, and a good portion of his garage.
