Dual-Switch Magnetic Welding Square
Control each magnetic face independently for easier setup, positioning, and release.
SHT-MDA545 Dual-Switch Magnetic Welding Square uses two independent on/off switches, allowing each magnetic side to be activated separately. This gives you more control when positioning steel, iron, round tubing, square tubing, and other compatible magnetic workpieces for welding and fabrication.
Turn on one side to anchor the square, position the second workpiece, then activate the other magnetic face when everything is aligned. When it is time to reposition or remove the square, simply switch off the magnetic face instead of fighting the full magnetic pull.
Why Choose the SHT-MDA545?
- Independent Dual Switches: Control each magnetic face separately for easier alignment and release.
- 77 lb Magnetic Hold: Provides strong holding force for welding and fabrication setups.
- 45° & 90° Positioning: Designed for common welding and assembly angles.
- Compact 5" Size: Easy to position in tighter fabrication areas.
- Round & Square Tubing: Useful for positioning different tubing shapes during fit-up.
- High-Temperature Capability: Designed for demanding welding environments.
- Quick Release: Turn either magnetic face off to reposition parts more easily.
- Easy Debris Removal: Switch the magnet off to quickly remove steel chips, grinding dust, and other magnetic debris.
- Durable Construction: Galvanized steel casing with ferrite core and sealed aluminum edges.
- Portable Design: Compact size and 1.94 lb weight make it easy to carry around the shop or jobsite.
Independent Magnetic Control
Standard magnetic welding squares are always pulling toward nearby steel. The SHT-MDA545 gives you more control by allowing each magnetic face to operate independently.
This makes it easier to:
- Anchor the square before positioning the second workpiece
- Fine-tune part alignment before activating both magnets
- Release one workpiece without disturbing the other
- Reposition parts during fit-up
- Remove the square after tack welding
- Clean metal debris from the magnetic faces
45° & 90° Positioning
The SHT-MDA545 is designed for 45° and 90° positioning, making it a practical setup tool for frames, brackets, tubing, plate, and other fabricated assemblies.
The independent switches help make setup especially useful when aligning two separate workpieces because one side can remain anchored while the other side is adjusted.
77 lb Magnetic Holding Force
The SHT-MDA545 provides up to 77 lb (35 kg) of magnetic holding force to help keep compatible ferrous workpieces positioned during fitting, tack welding, and assembly.
Actual holding force can vary depending on material thickness, surface condition, air gaps, workpiece shape, and how much of the magnetic face contacts the material.
High-Temperature Performance
The SHT-MDA545 is designed for demanding welding environments and has a listed high-temperature operating range of 260°F to 356°F.
Keep the magnet within its rated temperature limits to help protect magnetic performance and service life.
Round & Square Tubing
The independently controlled magnetic faces make the MDA545 useful when positioning both round and square tubing. Being able to switch each side on separately helps reduce unwanted magnetic pull while the parts are being aligned.
Release Metal Debris Quickly
Metal chips, grinding dust, and other ferrous debris naturally collect on magnetic tools. With the MDA545, simply turn the magnetic face off to release accumulated debris for faster cleanup.

How to Use
- Position the SHT-MDA545 against the first compatible ferrous workpiece.
- Turn on the first magnetic face to anchor the square.
- Position the second workpiece at the required 45° or 90° angle.
- Fine-tune the alignment while the second magnetic face remains off.
- Turn on the second magnetic face once the workpiece is properly positioned.
- Confirm the joint is secure before tack welding or assembly.
- When finished, switch off the magnetic faces for easier removal.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the SHT-MDA545 different from a standard magnetic welding square?
The SHT-MDA545 has two independent on/off switches. Each magnetic face can be controlled separately, making setup, repositioning, and removal easier.
How much magnetic holding force does it provide?
The SHT-MDA545 provides up to 77 lb (35 kg) of magnetic holding force.
What angles can it hold?
The SHT-MDA545 is designed for 45° and 90° welding and fabrication setups.
What size is the MDA545?
The magnetic square measures approximately 5" x 5" x 1.72" (127 x 127 x 43.5mm).
Can it be used with round tubing?
Yes. The SHT-MDA545 can be used to help position round and square tubing, as well as other compatible ferrous workpieces.
Why would I turn only one magnet on?
Turning on one magnetic face first allows you to anchor the square while the second workpiece is still being positioned. Once alignment is correct, the second magnet can be switched on.
Does turning the magnet off help with cleanup?
Yes. Switching the magnetic face off makes it easier to remove metal shavings, grinding dust, and other magnetic debris.
What is the temperature range?
The SHT-MDA545 has a listed high-temperature range of 260°F to 356°F.
How much does it weigh?
The SHT-MDA545 weighs approximately 1.94 lb.
