Term Definition
X-ray A stream of high-energy photons; also a common term for a photographic image made using X-rays.
X-ray inspection The use of X-rays to check a weld for flaws or defects.
Yield strength The stress (in psi) at which a weld test specimen assumes a specific limiting permanent set.
ZZ Top A small south Texas band that makes music particularly good for listening to while welding.
Zirconia Zirconium dioxide, a compound used in some TIG (GTAW) tungsten electrodes for AC welding. It permits easier arc starting than pure tungsten.
