Recommended Materials

  • Steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Chrome-moly steel
  • Aluminum with the proper optional setup

MIG Welding Capacity

Steel & Stainless Steel:

  • Maximum Single Pass: Up to approximately 7/16"
  • Maximum Multi-Pass: Up to approximately 3/4"+
  • Minimum Thickness: Approximately 24 gauge

Aluminum with Optional Equipment:

  • Maximum Single Pass: Up to approximately 1/4"
  • Maximum Multi-Pass: Up to approximately 3/8"
  • Minimum Thickness: Approximately 14 gauge

Minimum and maximum figures depend on operator skill, wire diameter, joint preparation, shielding gas, transfer mode, welding position, and the accessories installed. Select a welder based on your normal working range rather than its absolute minimum or maximum capacity.

Aluminum Welding Options

The Cyclone 262i can be configured for aluminum MIG welding using one of the following options:

  • Parker DSP 360 Spool Gun: Keeps soft aluminum wire close to the drive system for more reliable feeding.
  • Parker SGP 360A Push-Pull Gun: Provides improved aluminum wire feeding for longer leads and production use.
  • North/Everlast MGP Push-Pull Gun: Compatible optional push-pull solution.
  • Standard MIG Gun Conversion: Requires the proper U-groove drive rolls and polymer liner.

Important: Structural aluminum MIG welding should generally be performed using spray transfer in the flat position. This machine does not provide pulsed-spray MIG, so it is not the preferred choice for structural aluminum welding in vertical or overhead positions.

Stick Welding Capacity

  • Minimum Electrode Diameter: 1/16"
  • Maximum Electrode Diameter: Up to approximately 5/32"
  • Electrode Capability: Supports common electrode types, including E6010

Maximum electrode diameter depends on the electrode classification, manufacturer recommendations, welding position, and application.

Wire Size & Spool Compatibility

  • Installed Wire Range: .035"–.045"
  • Optional Wire Range: Approximately .023"–.062" with proper gun, liner, tips, and drive rolls
  • Wire-Spool Capacity: 12" spools weighing approximately 30–44 lbs.
  • 8" Spools: Supported with the included adapter

Note: When running .023" or .030" wire, use the included smaller drive rolls and install a properly sized MIG gun liner or smaller MIG gun for reliable feeding.

Generator Requirements

  • Use only a generator rated by its manufacturer as producing clean power
  • Total harmonic distortion must be 5% or less
  • Minimum recommended generator size: 12,500 surge watts

Using an undersized generator or one that does not meet clean-power requirements may damage the welder and void warranty coverage.

Who Is the Cyclone 262i Best For?

The Cyclone 262i is best suited for welders who need high-output MIG performance, professional Stick capability, and detailed control over production welding parameters. It is an excellent fit for fabrication shops, automotive businesses, maintenance departments, and manufacturers that regularly weld medium to heavy steel but still want a compact and approachable machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the PowerSet function do?
PowerSet recommends starting welding parameters based on information such as wire diameter and material thickness. It helps speed up setup while preserving full manual control for experienced welders.

Can the Cyclone 262i weld with E6010 electrodes?
Yes. Its Stick mode supports E6010 and includes adjustable Hot Start, Hot Start duration, and Arc Force controls.

Can this machine weld aluminum?
Yes. Aluminum requires an optional spool gun, push-pull gun, or the correct U-groove drive rolls and polymer liner for the standard MIG gun.

Does this machine offer pulsed MIG?
No. It is not a pulsed-spray MIG welder. Structural aluminum welding should generally be performed in spray transfer and in the flat position.

Can welding programs be saved?
Yes. The programmable memory stores multiple setups for faster recall and more consistent production work.

What size wire spools does it accept?
It accepts full-size 12" spools and can use 8" spools with the included adapter.
