The most commonly used tungsten electrode.
This blend is primarily used for DC welding.
It has a low work function and provides a high load and amperage capability.
Health concerns regarding exposure to fumes and dust containing Thorium have prompted an industry wide shift to non-radioactive tungsten blends like Ceriated, Lanthanated, & Tri-Mix.
Warning: Thorium is radioactive. When grinding thoriated tungsten electrodes, use personal respiratory protection and control the dust at the source with exhaust ventilation.
