  • Maximum Electrode Diameter: Up to approximately 3/32"

On 240V Power:

  • Minimum Electrode Diameter: 1/16"
  • Maximum Electrode Diameter: Up to approximately 1/8"

Electrode Capability: Suitable for E6010 and E6011. Use the E6010 setting for both.

Maximum electrode diameter depends on electrode type, manufacturer recommendations, welding position, and application.

TIG Welding Capacity

On 120V Power:

  • Minimum Material Thickness: Approximately 28 gauge
  • Maximum Single Pass: Up to approximately 1/8"
  • Maximum Practical Multi-Pass: Up to approximately 1/4"

On 240V Power:

  • Minimum Material Thickness: Approximately 28 gauge
  • Maximum Single Pass: Up to approximately 3/16"
  • Maximum Practical Multi-Pass: Up to approximately 3/8"

Important: This machine provides DC TIG output only and is not intended for TIG welding aluminum or magnesium.

TIG Start & Control Options

  • High-Frequency Start: Starts the arc without touching the tungsten to the workpiece.
  • Lift Start: Provides an alternative starting method when high frequency is not preferred.
  • 2T/4T Operation: Supports torch-switch welding for short or extended weld cycles.
  • Foot Pedal Control: Allows remote amperage adjustment during TIG welding.
  • Pulse TIG: Helps control heat input, distortion, and puddle behavior.

Generator Requirements

  • Use only generators certified by the manufacturer as producing clean power
  • Total harmonic distortion must be 5% or less
  • For 120V Operation: Minimum recommended generator capacity is approximately 3,500 watts
  • For 240V Operation: Minimum recommended generator capacity is approximately 6,500 watts

Damage caused by undersized generators or generators that do not produce clean power may not be covered under warranty.

Important Operating Notes

  • This machine is DC output only in both TIG and Stick modes.
  • It cannot TIG weld aluminum or magnesium.
  • Aluminum may be welded in Stick mode using suitable flux-coated aluminum electrodes.
  • For accurate maximum TIG amperage adjustment with the foot pedal, set the amperage before plugging in the pedal.
  • Once the pedal is connected, the maximum-amperage adjustment may not be reflected on the digital display.
  • Specifications and included accessories are subject to change without notice.

Who Is the PowerARC 161STH Best For?

The PowerARC 161STH is a strong choice for welders who need a portable Stick and DC TIG machine with more control than a basic entry-level inverter. It is especially useful for repair, maintenance, field work, motorsports, automotive fabrication, and shops that need E6010 performance without moving to a larger industrial welder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the PowerARC 161STH weld with E6010 electrodes?
Yes. It is suitable for E6010 and E6011 electrodes. Use the E6010 setting for either type.

Can this machine TIG weld aluminum?
No. It provides DC TIG output only. Aluminum TIG welding generally requires AC output.

Can it weld aluminum at all?
Yes, but only in Stick mode with suitable flux-coated aluminum electrodes.

Does it include a TIG foot pedal?
Yes. The supplied package includes a 22k-ohm Power Pedal TIG Deluxe.

Can it operate on standard 120V power?
Yes. It operates on both 120V and 240V. Maximum output and material capacity are reduced on 120V.

What is the benefit of HF Start?
High-Frequency Start initiates the TIG arc without touching the tungsten to the workpiece, helping reduce contamination and improve arc starts.

Does it include a carrying case?
Yes. An impact-resistant carrying case is included.
