Important: The PowerARC 300ST provides DC TIG output only and is not designed for TIG welding aluminum.
Optional TIG Setup Requirements
To use the PowerARC 300ST in Lift TIG mode, the following equipment must be purchased separately:
- Compatible TIG torch
- Argon regulator and gas hose
- Shielding gas
- Tungsten electrodes
- TIG torch consumables
Power Requirements
- 240V single-phase or three-phase input
- Optional 480V three-phase version available by special order
- 480V model has an estimated six-to-eight-week lead time
Generator Requirements
- Use only a generator certified by its manufacturer as producing clean power
- Total harmonic distortion must be 5% or less
- Recommended generator capacity: At least 15,000 surge watts for single-phase operation
Using an undersized generator or one that does not meet clean-power requirements may damage the welder and affect warranty coverage.
Important Operating Notes
- This machine is intended primarily for medium- and heavy-duty welding.
- It is recommended for steel and stainless steel approximately 16 gauge or thicker.
- TIG operation uses Lift Start only.
- TIG amperage is adjusted from the machine panel.
- A TIG foot pedal cannot be used with this machine.
- The machine does not provide AC TIG output.
Who Is the PowerARC 300ST Best For?
The PowerARC 300ST is best suited for welders who prioritize high-output Stick performance, E6010 capability, and industrial duty cycle over advanced TIG controls. It is a strong fit for pipeline, repair, structural, shipyard, farm, and fabrication work where dependable arc performance and high output are more important than low-amperage precision or remote TIG control.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the PowerARC 300ST run E6010 electrodes?
Yes. It includes a dedicated E6010 setting designed for cellulose electrodes such as 5P, 5P+, and 5P++.
Can this machine TIG weld?
Yes. It provides DC Lift TIG capability for steel, stainless steel, and chrome-moly. A compatible TIG torch, regulator, gas hose, shielding gas, tungsten, and consumables must be purchased separately.
Can it TIG weld aluminum?
No. Aluminum TIG welding typically requires AC output, and this machine provides DC TIG only. Aluminum may be welded in Stick mode using a suitable electrode and technique.
Does it support a TIG foot pedal?
No. TIG amperage is controlled from the machine panel, and foot-pedal operation is not supported.
Is this suitable for thin sheet metal?
It is primarily designed for medium- and heavy-duty work. The supplied specifications recommend it for steel and stainless approximately 16 gauge or thicker.
Can I run it from a generator?
Yes, provided the generator produces clean power with 5% or less THD and offers at least 15,000 surge watts for single-phase operation.
Does the machine include a TIG torch?
No. The standard package includes the Stick electrode holder and ground clamp. TIG equipment is sold separately.
Can I order a 480V version?
Yes. A 480V three-phase configuration is available by special order with an estimated six-to-eight-week lead time.
