Everlast PowerPlasma 52i – 50 Amp Dual-Voltage Plasma Cutter with Gouge & CNC Modes
Portable plasma cutting power for the shop, jobsite, repair truck, and small CNC table.
The Everlast PowerPlasma 52i combines dual-voltage portability with digitally controlled cutting performance. Designed for 120V or 240V operation, it gives welders and fabricators the flexibility to make clean cuts in the shop or take the machine into the field when standard 240V power is not available.
With blowback pilot arc, dedicated gouge and CNC modes, bright digital displays, and an air-pressure guide system, the PowerPlasma 52i helps simplify setup while improving cut quality and consumable life.

Blowback Pilot Arc
The IPT-60 blowback pilot arc starts without direct torch-tip contact with the workpiece. This helps improve cutting on rusty, painted, dirty, or expanded metal.
The PowerPlasma 52i includes two pilot-arc operating choices:
- Continuous Pilot Arc: Automatically re-lights during interrupted cuts, making it useful for expanded metal.
- Tip-Saver Mode: Limits pilot-arc operation to approximately three seconds when a cutting arc is not established, helping reduce unnecessary consumable wear.
Gouging Capability
The dedicated gouge mode can remove old welds, damaged material, and surface defects without cutting completely through the workpiece. It is useful for repair, rework, weld preparation, and maintenance tasks.
CNC Plasma Compatibility
- Separate CNC operating mode
- Suitable for compatible small CNC plasma tables
- Best suited for continuous cutting around 1/4" or less
Important: For continuous CNC use, limit output to approximately 40 amps, which is the machine’s listed 100% duty-cycle level.
Compressed-Air Requirements
Clean, dry compressed air is essential for consistent cut quality and long consumable life. The included regulator/water trap helps remove some moisture, but it is not a complete air-drying system.
- Install a separate inline air dryer in addition to the supplied water trap
- Drain the compressor and filters regularly
- Use clean, oil-free air whenever possible
- Do not reduce air pressure to compensate for low-amperage operation
Wet or contaminated air can damage the torch, reduce cut quality, and cause excessive consumable wear.
120V Operating Notes
- Maximum cutting output and capacity are reduced when operating on 120V
- Use a smaller-diameter cutting nozzle when operating below 40 amps
- Do not lower air pressure to stabilize low-amperage cutting because this can destabilize the arc
Generator Requirements
- Use only generators certified by the manufacturer as producing clean power
- Total harmonic distortion must be 5% or less
- For 240V Operation: Use a generator rated at approximately 8,500 surge watts
- For 120V Operation: Use a generator rated at a minimum of approximately 4,500 watts
Using an undersized generator or one that does not meet clean-power requirements may damage the plasma cutter and affect warranty coverage.
Who Is the PowerPlasma 52i Best For?
The PowerPlasma 52i is a strong choice for welders and fabricators who want more capability than an entry-level plasma cutter but still need dual-voltage portability. It is especially well suited for repair work, home and commercial shops, farm use, field service, metal art, and smaller CNC tables.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the PowerPlasma 52i run on both 120V and 240V?
Yes. It includes dual-voltage capability and a 120V/240V pigtail adapter. Maximum cutting capacity is available on 240V.
How thick can it cut?
On 240V, it is listed for regular cutting up to approximately 1/2", clean cuts up to approximately 3/4", and severance cuts up to approximately 15/16".
Can it cut painted or rusty metal?
Yes. The blowback pilot arc helps establish the cutting arc through paint, rust, and surface contamination.
Does it have a gouging mode?
Yes. The dedicated gouge function can remove old welds, defects, and unwanted metal without cutting completely through the workpiece.
Can it be used with a CNC plasma table?
Yes. It includes a separate CNC mode. For continuous CNC use, output should be limited to approximately 40 amps.
Do I need a separate air compressor?
Yes. The machine requires an external compressed-air supply and a separate inline air dryer.
Can it cut aluminum and stainless steel?
Yes. Plasma cutting works on electrically conductive metals including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium.
